Govinda Teams to Compete for ₹25 Lakh Prize in Record-Breaking Dahi Handi.

Thane to Host 44th Sanskruti Dahi Handi Festival on August 16.

The famous Sanskruti Dahi Handi festival will be celebrated on August 16, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. at Thane’s Wagle Estate. The first team to break the top-tier handi will win ₹11 lakh and a trophy, while the second and third place teams will receive ₹6 lakh and ₹5 lakh with trophies respectively.

Special arrangements are made for women’s Govinda teams, with ₹50,000 and trophies as prizes. Actor Sholay fame Viju Khote will also be honored at the event.

Tourism Minister Pratap Sarnaik said efforts will be made to make the event accident-free. A 111-member Spanish human tower team (Castellers) will also participate.

This year, the aim is to break the previous world record for the tallest human pyramid. Teams from across Maharashtra and outside the state are expected to join, making it one of the grandest celebrations of the festival.
