Supreme Court Clears Gateway of India Passenger Jetty Project.
All Petitions Against Project Dismissed.
The Supreme Court of India has dismissed all petitions against the Gateway of India Passenger Jetty project in Mumbai. This clears the path for the ₹229 crore project to move forward.
The project, led by the Maharashtra government with Minister Nitesh Rane involved, aims to provide Mumbai residents with a modern, safe, and fast sea travel option. The jetty will feature a terminal with waiting lounges, ticket counters, administrative offices, and parking facilities.
Benefits of the project will extend beyond Mumbai to areas like Thane, Kalyan, and Dombivli. Following the dismissal of petitions, the old jetty at Gateway will be shut down and replaced with a new operational jetty. The project was opposed by some due to concerns about impact on the Gateway area and lack of local benefits.
