Frequent Power Cuts Put Small Industries in Thane at Risk

Thane: In the last four months, from April to July, small and medium industries in Thane faced power cuts for a total of 116 hours, leading to significant losses. Industrialists are now questioning whether they should consider shifting operations out of Thane due to these disruptions.

The Thane Small Scale Industries Association organized a meeting between industry representatives and officials from MSEDCL (Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company). About 50 entrepreneurs and MSEDCL officials attended. Areas like Wagle Estate in Thane, a major industrial zone, have been hit hard. Despite being an IT park hub, industries here face regular power outages, especially in Thane and Raigad districts.

MSEDCL’s Mumbai Urban Zone Chief, Sanjay Pawar, attended the meeting and clarified that the rising power demand is the reason behind the outages. He assured that the issues are being addressed. Association President Satish Parikh said these blackouts have forced industries to halt production frequently, resulting in financial damage.

Power supply stability is now essential for Thane’s industrial growth. Industry leaders stressed that resolving this issue is crucial to prevent further impact on business.
