New Jawahar Navodaya School Planned in Shahapur to Boost Rural Education in Thane

Plans are underway to set up a new Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) in Shahapur, Thane district, to provide quality education to students from rural areas. A proposal to allocate six hectares of land in Bhatsanagar, Shahapur, has been sent to the district administration.

Currently, students from Shahapur, Murbad, Bhiwandi, Ambernath, and Kalyan face difficulties as the nearest JNV is in Palghar. Earlier, Palghar and Thane were one district, but after Palghar became independent in 2014, the JNV there served both districts, causing access issues for Thane’s rural students.

The government had approved a separate JNV for Thane in 2014, but the project is now gaining momentum. The aim of JNVs is to provide quality education to talented rural students across India. Every year, over 10,000 students from a district appear for the entrance test, but only 80 get admission.

With the new school in Shahapur, many rural students will get better opportunities for higher education without having to travel far, fulfilling a long-standing demand of the region.
