Road Cave-In Causes Traffic Congestion at Majiwada

The caving in of the road at Majiwada Junction, which is critically important for the city’s traffic flow, has led to massive traffic congestion. The traffic police have appealed to the commuters to use alternative routes.

Thousands of vehicles from the Mumbai-Nashik Highway, Ghidbunder, Kolshet, Majiwada Village, Kapurbawdi, Balkum, Vrindavan Society, and Vasant Vihar pass through the Majiwada Junction area. On Tuesday night, the road leading towards Vrindavan Complex from Majiwada Junction suddenly caved in, causing heavy traffic jams in the vicinity.

The TMC placed barricades on Wednesday morning and closed the affected section of the road, creating a nuisance for the commuters.

The TMC is still investigating whether the cause was a pipeline leak or other factors. Excavation work was recently carried out at the junction for the Saket-Kopri Anandnagar Elevated Project. This has narrowed the available road space, worsening the congestion.

About a month ago, the road alongside the route running from the Mumbai-Nashik Highway toward Majiwada Junction had also caved in. With two such incidents occurring in the same area within a month, the quality of road construction has come under intense scrutiny.
