Illegal Student Transport: Parents Worried About Safety

Thane RTO and Police take action against unauthorized school vans

Thane: In a joint drive by the Thane Regional Transport Office (RTO) and Traffic Police, strict action has been taken against unauthorized school vans risking students’ lives. Over the past six days, 202 vehicles were inspected, and 47 vans were found operating without valid permits.

These vans lacked essential student safety measures like emergency exits, fire extinguishers, grills, and proper seating. Many drivers did not have required documents or proper fitness certificates.

Officials found that drivers were ignoring transport safety rules, and students were being packed beyond capacity. Such carelessness has led to accidents in the past, putting students’ lives in danger.

The drive was led by RTO officer Hemangi Patil and Deputy Commissioner of Police Pankaj Shirsat. Action has been intensified in areas like Vartak Nagar, Kopri, Dhokali, and Ghodbunder.

Authorities urge parents to verify the transport arrangements they choose for their children.
