Bhatsa Dam Full: Year-Long Water Supply for Thane-Mumbai Assured

Heavy rains cause Bhatsa dam gates to open; 12 cubic meters of water released per second.

Shahapur: Due to continuous heavy rainfall in the Shahapur taluka, the Bhatsa dam reached its full capacity. On August 23, at 10:00 AM and again at 3:00 PM, two gates of the dam were opened to release excess water. Authorities have alerted villagers living downstream.

All five gates of the Bhatsa dam are now open. Water is being released at the rate of 12 cubic meters per second.

In the evening, around 5:40 PM, water also started overflowing from the Tansa dam’s overflow point. One gate was opened to manage the rising water levels. Tansa dam is currently discharging 2290 cubic meters of water per second. The dam’s water level has crossed 135.15 meters, and its storage is now at 100%.

This assures sufficient water supply to Thane and Mumbai for the entire year.
