Garbage Department Accused of ‘Commission Cleaning’
Congress spokesperson Rahul Pingle has accused officials of the Thane Municipal Corporation’s garbage department of colluding with contractors and failing to clean drains in residential areas.
Pingle alleged that garbage from Kalwa’s drains has not been removed for two months, causing foul smells, mosquito breeding, and diseases like malaria and dengue. He warned that the situation could worsen if not addressed immediately.
After inspecting the affected areas, Pingle stated that despite repeated complaints, the administration has taken no action. “The drains are overflowing, and if they are not cleaned soon, the upcoming festive season could see a rise in health issues,” he said.
Pingle also claimed that the negligence is due to corruption, where officials and contractors focus on earning commissions rather than actual cleaning. He demanded strict action against the responsible contractors and officers to prevent further health risks.
