Can India win its first-ever bilateral women’s ODI series against Australia?

The three-match women’s ODI series between India and Australia is levelled 1-1. So far, both the matches have been one-sided affairs. While in the first ODI, Australia dominated chasing 282 with ease keeping eight wickets in hand and 35 balls to spare, in the second ODI, India bounced back, handing a crushing 102 run defeat to Australia, which was their biggest defeat in a run chase in ODIs. With that win, Women in Blue, after 18 years, tasted success against Australia on Indian soil in ODIs. Now, with everything to play for in the third and final ODI on Saturday at Delhi, expect fireworks from both teams. India has a chance to create history as it has never beat Australia in a bilateral women’s ODI series.

India and Australia have played 58 ODIs against each other, of which India have won 11 and Australia have won 47. In India, Australia dominates the head-to-head battle 21-5.

Players to watch out

Smriti Mandhana: The Indian vice-captain scored her 12th ODI century in the second ODI against Australia. It was the fastest century by an women cricketer against Australia in ODIs. The left-handed opening batter smashed a century in 77 balls and went on to score 117 off 91 balls, which included 14 fours and four sixes. The world number one ODI batter is also the leading run scorer in this ongoing three-match ODI series with 175 runs.

Kranti Goud: The right-arm pace sensation of India was brilliant in the second ODI against Australia picking up three wickets for just 28 runs in 9.5 overs. The 22-yearold picked the big wicket of Australian captain Alyssa Healy in the fifth over of the innings. In her young ODI career of six matches, she has impressed with her ability and talent.

Annabel Sutherland: The Australian all-rounder contributed with bat and ball in the second ODI against India. The right-arm medium pacer claimed one wicket for 58 runs in her 10-over spell. Batting at number five, the right-hander top scored with 45 runs off 42 balls, including four fours.

Darcie Brown: Playing just her first match of the ODI series, the Australian speedster made a mark for herself snapping three wickets for 42 runs in her eight overs. The 22-year-old was the most successful bowler for Australia in the second ODI against India.
