Six Lakh Konkan Passengers Give ₹24 Crore Boost to ST During Ganpati Festival

Over 5,000 extra buses operated; record safe journeys without accidents.

This year’s Ganpati festival brought record earnings and passenger numbers for the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC). From August 23 to September 8, more than 5.96 lakh passengers from Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar regions traveled safely to Konkan using ST buses, generating an income of around ₹23.77 crore.

To meet the festive rush, MSRTC arranged 5,000 extra buses, completing 15,388 trips during the period. Transport officials proudly noted that all passengers were carried safely, without a single accident, marking a new milestone for the corporation.

Transport Minister Pratap Sarnayak praised the efforts of MSRTC staff, saying, “This is a remarkable achievement. More than 10,000 drivers, conductors, mechanics, supervisors, and officers from depots across the state worked tirelessly to ensure smooth and safe journeys despite many challenges.”

The successful handling of such a massive movement of passengers has broken past records and highlighted the importance of careful planning and coordination. The minister added that the dedication of the employees not only ensured timely travel for lakhs of devotees but also strengthened people’s trust in ST services.
