Contractors Allegedly Controlling TMC Projects Through Political Influence.
In the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC), a few politically connected contractors have allegedly taken control over engineering projects through indirect pressure on engineers. These contractors, operating under political patronage, are accused of influencing project decisions, leading to concerns about the quality of work.
According to sources, some engineers are transferred or denied key positions unless they cooperate with these contractors. Senior engineers claim that despite being eligible for promotions, they are being sidelined for not complying with external pressures. Currently, out of 196 sanctioned engineering posts, 80 remain vacant, further affecting project execution.
Many engineers have remained in the same position for over a decade, while others are repeatedly shuffled, disrupting continuity. This manipulation has created a monopoly in departments like roads and construction, where the same group of contractors consistently bags tenders.
A contractor duo, nicknamed “Ranga-Billa,” has allegedly been dominating this process for the last four years, taking advantage of the political system. Officials warn that such unchecked interference may lead to substandard civic work and severe loss of public trust.
