New Railway Station to Honor Anand Dighe

In the General Body Meeting of the Thane Municipal Corporation held on Wednesday, a resolution to name the new railway station being built between Thane and Mulund ‘Anand Dighe’ was unanimously approved. MP Naresh Mhaske raised the demand to name the station after Dharamveer Anand Dighe during a parliament session.

Central Railway initiated this decision to reduce heavy congestion at the existing Thane station and to provide major relief to commuters.

Funding

Initially, the project was estimated at 250 crore rupees to be shared between the TMC and the Railways. However, due to delays in approvals, the cost increased. After COVID-19, MP Shrikant Shinde and Naresh Mhaske consistently pursued the Railway Ministry to have Railways bear the entire cost.

The Railway Minister agreed that the Railways would bear the costs after several meetings in Delhi with Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, former Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, and former Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. A proposal to this effect has been sent to the Railway Board.

The resolution highlights Dighe’s social, political, and developmental contributions to Thane. Naming the station after him is a matter of pride for all ‘Thanekars.’
