GST Changes Bring Relief to Common People

Thane: The GST Council has reduced the tax rates to mainly two slabs – 5% and 18%. This has created a positive atmosphere among citizens and businesses. Essential items like medicines for cancer and serious diseases, insurance, and many food products are now cheaper.

Earlier, GST had 12%, 18%, and 28% slabs. The government has now decided to cancel the 28% slab for most items, keeping only 5% and 18%. From September 22, this new system will be applied.

Everyday items like bread, paneer, and milk products will be cheaper. Medicines for major diseases are also tax-free. For hotel businesses, food will have only 5% GST. This means a meal costing ₹100 will now cost ₹105 instead of more. Hoteliers believe this will bring more customers.

Overall, the new GST rates are being seen as a “Diwali gift” for common people as well as businessmen.
