Objections Raised on Ward Structure in Thane

Thane: Over the past few days, discussions have been going on about the new ward structure of Thane Municipal Corporation ahead of elections. Many citizens, organizations, and political parties have expressed dissatisfaction. On the last day for filing objections, nearly 200 objections were registered.

In the new structure, some wards are created with four members while some with three. In 2017, all wards had this same format – 32 wards with four members and one ward with three members, making 131 corporators. This time, the arrangement has changed. Some wards now represent 50,000–62,000 people, while others cover around 38,000. Citizens feel this is unfair and have demanded corrections.

Till now, about 261 objections have been officially recorded. The municipal corporation has kept the last date for objections and suggestions as 4th September. After that, the final decision on ward structure will be taken
