Confusion in Ganesh Visarjan Arrangements: Environment Protection Argument.

An environmental group has filed a complaint against the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board and local municipal corporations regarding the arrangements for Ganesh idol immersions (visarjan). The complaint states that due to a lack of proper facilities, idols of P.O.P. (Plaster of Paris) Ganesh are being immersed in natural water bodies.

Following the complaint, the Pollution Control Board issued notices to the municipal corporations of Mumbai, Thane, Mira-Bhayander, and Kalyan-Dombivli. The board directed these corporations to submit a report within two days on compliance with the orders regarding eco-friendly Ganesh immersions.

In Bhivandi, artificial ponds were set up for idol immersion. Last year, there were protests against Ganesh immersions in natural water sources. The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board took action on August 26, 2025, due to the environmental impact of immersions in rivers, lakes, and creeks.
