Bhiwandi Municipal Corporation Seeks Rs 55 Crore from Government.
Employees’ Salary Arrears Pending; Funds Not Allocated.
The Bhiwandi-Nizampur Municipal Corporation has requested Rs 55 crore from the state government to pay the salary arrears of its employees. The arrears are due to a difference in pay as per the assistance pay commission’s recommendations.
The corporation’s financial condition is stated to be challenging, making it difficult to pay the arrears. According to reports, the corporation spends Rs 43 crore annually and earns revenue through taxes. The employees’ union has written to local representatives and the municipal development department seeking the funds.
The corporation is required to pay 100% of the salaries of its employees, with 50% covered by the government and 50% by the corporation itself. The estimated annual salary expenditure is Rs 33 crore. The request for funds has been made citing the corporation’s inability to bear the financial burden of the salary arrears.
