The New Thane-Mulund Station is Officially On
The Railway board has recently approved the financial funding for an “extended” railway station between Thane and Mulund. The tendering process will begin soon.
Thane railway station currently handles an estimated passenger load of approximately 10 to 12 lakh commuters daily. The new station is expected to reduce the crowd at Thane by half. It will reduce travel time to just a few minutes for these commuters and will benefit residents of Wagle Estate, Vartak Nagar, and Vasant Vihar.
The Central Railways Board will provide a funding of 256 crore for the new station. The station is proposed to be built on the land currently occupied by the Thane Mental Hospital between Thane and Mulund. The Thane Municipal Corporation will oversee the progress of the work. The project is expected to be completed and open to passengers by 2029.
