Smashing Success: Thane Shuttlers Dominate State-Level Open

Players from the Thane Badminton Academy delivered an outstanding performance at the Manoj Ramachandran Memorial State-Level Open Badminton Tournament, held from March 26 to 29 at Matunga Gymkhana, Mumbai. The academy won 1 silver and 2 bronze medals due to the consistent performance of the Thane players across various age groups.

These athletes, who trained under the Syed Modi Badminton Training Scheme at the Khandu Rangnekar Badminton Hall (Dadoji Kondadev Stadium), left a strong mark on the competition.

In the Men’s Singles, Sarvesh Yadav displayed impressive form by defeating Vishwajeet Thavila at the start (15-1, 15-5). In the quarterfinals, he maintained his momentum by beating Aryan Apte (15-10, 15-8). The semi-final against Harshit Mahimkar was thrilling, with Sarvesh winning 21-16, 17-21, and 21-16. Despite losing the final match, his overall consistency secured him the silver medal.

In the Under-11 Boys’ Singles, Yohan Nair played exceptionally well, defeating Namish Kamat (15-7, 15-3) in the Round of 32. He won 15-13, 13-15, and 16-14 against Jiaan Ghiya in the Round of 16. He dominated Mirek Serejo (15-2, 15-4) in the quarterfinals but ultimately secured a bronze after a hard-fought loss in the semi-finals.

In the Women’s Singles, Arya Korgaonkar showcased remarkable skill in the Round of 32 and Round of 16, defeating Tian Castellino (15-5, 15-8) and Advisha Ghorpade (15-7, 15-3), respectively. After losing the first set, she won 9-15, 16-14, and 15-7 in the quarterfinal match against Ananya Shinde. She finished with a bronze in the semi-final battle.

Expressing his satisfaction, Coach Shrikant Wad stated that every player put in their best effort to win these medals, and their success was owed to their hard work and disciplined training.
