New Ordinance Targets Drain and Creek Encroachments in Thane

Buildings constructed on stormwater drains are now facing a major crisis. A decision has been made to regularise constructions on grazing lands up to a certain square footage. However, explicit instructions have been given to take action against constructions built inside stormwater drains.

In Thane city, several developers have carried out construction by altering the natural flow of drains, while in many other places, it is observed that people have built structures directly inside the drains. In the Yeoor area, some hotels and roadside eateries have been constructed directly atop these drains.

Despite existing rules that require a specific mandatory distance be maintained from a drain for any construction, they are violated. There is a strong possibility of imminent action against constructions built over or adjacent to the drains in Thane.
