Protective Wall Collapse Damages Autos, Two-Wheelers and Cars in Kalyan
No casualties reported; residents demand immediate safety audit and compensation.
A major accident occurred on Saturday morning at Vikas Colony in Mohane, Kalyan, when a large protective wall belonging to the Adani Group suddenly collapsed, crushing several vehicles parked nearby.
The 60 to 70-foot-long wall, earlier part of the NRC factory premises now owned by the Adani Group, came crashing down, severely damaging around eight to ten vehicles. Among them, five to six autorickshaws were completely crushed, while four two-wheelers and one car also suffered heavy damage. Fortunately, since the incident occurred early in the morning, no residents were present in the area, and thus no casualties were reported. However, the collapse has sparked fear among locals.
The wall, nearly 50 to 60 years old, was originally part of the NRC factory, later sold to Raheja Builders and subsequently acquired by the Adani Group. Locals allege that the wall has become weak and dilapidated, with several incidents of collapse in recent years. Earlier, at Ambivli station, a similar wall collapse caused injuries to rickshaw passengers.
Citizens have criticized the lack of structural audits and have demanded immediate compensation for the affected autorickshaw drivers and vehicle owners, calling for urgent preventive measures to avoid further accidents.
