Mumbai Metro’s 1300 Crore Boost!
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) plans to expedite its ongoing Metro projects. The state government’s Urban Development Department has granted 1,061.77 crore rupees to MMRDA for metro projects. Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) has received 241.76 crore rupees.
The Metro receives funds from the 1% stamp duty levied on property sales and purchases within municipal corporation jurisdiction. Funds have been distributed to MMRDA and MMRC as a result of this revenue collection.
MMRDA is constructing a network of 14 metro lines in Mumbai and is presently working on six or seven. Metro 3 (Aarey to Cuffe Parade) was just put into service by MMRC.
Work on Metro 11 (Gateway of India – Anik Depot, Wadala) is scheduled to start, and an extension of the route to Bandra Terminus is planned.
There is now an essential need for funding due to this enormous expansion. The money for the 2025–2026 fiscal year was made available specifically to help these organizations repay the debts they took out to develop the Metro network and manage the high building expenses.
