Kopri Bridge Shut for 8 Days, Thane Faces Traffic Chaos
The Kopri bridge in East Thane will be closed to traffic for eight days due to a girder installation as part of the railway’s Santacruz-Chunabhatti Connector project. The work will take place from July 26 to August 3, during which a total of 14 megablocks will be implemented on the railway lines.
As a result, residents are expected to face major traffic jams, especially near the Eastern Express Highway. The traffic department has issued changes in vehicle movement and alternative routes to ease congestion.
Essential services like ambulances, fire brigades, and emergency vehicles will be given special access. However, regular commuters will have to deal with longer travel times and detours via Majiwada, Teen Hath Naka, and Anand Nagar.
The old Kopri bridge will also remain shut for vehicles during the work period. Authorities urge citizens to cooperate and use public transport where possible.
This project is part of a ₹260 crore initiative aimed at upgrading infrastructure and easing traffic in Thane
