Shortage in Tea and Coffee Quantity at Railway Stations Sparks Public Hearing

At several railway stations from Sindhudurg to Thane, vendors have been caught selling under-measured tea and coffee, charging full price but giving less quantity. This issue has now reached the authorities, and the District Legal Metrology Department will conduct a public hearing to address passenger complaints.

A special public grievance session will be held on August 5 at 12 noon at the Thane District Collector’s Office. These hearings will now take place every first Tuesday of the month.

Passengers can report instances of less quantity or improper weighing of food and beverages. Officials will examine the cases and take appropriate action. The department urges passengers to submit their complaints with supporting proof such as photos, bills, or cups used.

The public hearing aims to raise awareness and ensure strict action against such violations. Complaints can also be registered through the National Consumer Helpline toll-free numbers: 1800-11-4000 or 14404.

District officer Rohini Rode emphasized that vendors found guilty of cheating customers may face heavy fines or imprisonment.
