POP Idol Makers Await Green Signal.
Ban on POP Ganpati idols lifted, but artisans still uncertain about painting and drying..
The Bombay High Court has lifted the ban on POP (Plaster of Paris) Ganesh idols. This decision has brought some relief to idol makers. However, due to the late ruling, artisans have just started preparing POP idols, and they are unsure about completing painting and drying before the festival.
Traditionally, eco-friendly clay idols are promoted, but many buyers still prefer POP idols. Since the court’s decision came after Ashadhi Ekadashi, POP idol makers have limited time. Also, there is no clarity on whether they can paint or sun-dry the idols.
Because of this uncertainty, POP artisans are hesitating to resume full production. Many skilled workers have taken up other jobs due to the earlier ban. Raw materials are also scarce, and sellers are cautious.
Artisan Prasad Vade expressed concern that unless clear guidelines are issued, neither idol-making nor sales can progress properly.
