Neo Metros will run soon in Kalwa-Mumbra-Diva
In Thane, neo metro has been preferred over regular metro for internal travel, which is evident from the fact that work towards implementing the former, a lower cost metro, will be started soon in Kalwa, Mumbra and Diva.
The central government has instructed the TMC (Thane Municipal Corporation) to undertake this project instead of the internal metro. The project has also been approved by the General Assembly recently. On the same lines, there is a demand to create a public passenger transport system in Kalwa, Mumbra and Diva. Citizens of Kalwa, Mumbra and Diva have to rely on local trains of the Central Railway for travel. These passengers have to travel by bus or private vehicle as they are not allowed to travel in local trains during this period (COVID-19). In view of this situation, a demand was made at the general body meeting to provide a new option of public transport for these three suburbs. For this, work towards neo metro will be underway soon.
Neo Metro has less passenger capacity than regular metros. Maha Metro has already informed the corporation that the Kalwa-Parsik main road, Mumbra-Shil road and Mhatardi could be the route of this metro. Maha Metro has made it clear that the project is feasible. Based on that, the project planning process has been started. This news has been confirmed by TMC’s suburban engineer Praveen Papalkar.
