Nayak and Arjuna: Boring Through To 2028

Two Tunnel Boring Machines, Nayak and Arjuna, were formally launched for the Thane-Borivali Twin Tunnel project on Tuesday. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, and Sunetra Pawar were present at the inauguration of the project. Our deputy chief minister stated that he will personally monitor the progress of these machines. Addressing the media, he noted that the “Bhoomi Pujan” took place in 2024 and that the actual work has now gathered pace.

Once linked with the future Thane Coastal Road, this project will create a seamless bypass for city traffic. Despite passing under the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, advanced technology ensures minimal impact on biodiversity. To compensate for the 11,000 trees removed for the project, an equal number of trees will be planted.

Shinde assured residents that the construction would cause no inconvenience to the local population and that this project would be a vital link connecting the Eastern and Western suburbs, proving to be a true game changer.
