Seven New Railway Stations Planned on Virar–Dahanu Route
Work on Quadrupling of 64-km Line Underway; Project to be Completed by 2027.
The Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation (MRVC) has initiated the quadrupling of the 64-kilometer Virar–Dahanu railway route. As part of the project’s expansion, seven new stations will be developed between Virar and Dahanu, making travel more convenient for passengers in this growing region.
In recent years, Palghar district has seen rapid development, with thousands of daily commuters depending on the Western Railway. At present, there are only nine stations on this stretch, including Vaitarna, Saphale, Kelwe Road, Palghar, Umroli, Boisar, and Vangaon. Virar alone records over five to six lakh commuters daily, while Dahanu serves more than 2.5 lakh. Vaitarna and Boisar also witness heavy passenger traffic.
The project, with an estimated cost of ₹3,578 crore, is scheduled for completion by June 2027, with 41% of the work already finished. The proposed new stations include Vadhiv, Saratodi, Makunsar, Chintupada, Panchali, Vanjarpada, and BSES Colony. These will be developed in phases once the quadrupling work is complete.
With industrial hubs like Palghar and Boisar expanding, railway officials believe the upcoming stations will greatly benefit commuters and students in the region.
