Vadhavan–Tawa–Bharvir Expressway to Cut Travel Time to Just 1.5 Hours
MSRDC begins land acquisition after government approval.
The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) will construct a 104.898 km expressway between Tawa and Bharvir, connecting the upcoming Vadhavan Port with the Samruddhi Expressway. The state government has recently approved the alignment and land acquisition, and a government resolution was issued on Wednesday, paving the way for the project’s implementation.
Officials confirmed that land acquisition will soon begin, starting with a drone survey, followed by direct acquisition work. Once operational, the new expressway will reduce the Tawa–Bharvir travel time to just 1.5 hours.
The mega project is crucial as Vadhavan Port in Palghar is set to become one of the country’s largest ports. To ensure fast container and cargo movement from across Maharashtra, two highways are being planned:
•Vadhavan–Tawa stretch (32.180 km): To be built by NHAI.
•Tawa–Bharvir stretch (104.898 km): To be constructed by MSRDC.
For the Tawa–Bharvir section, around 1,000 hectares of land across Dahanu, Wada, Jawhar, Mokhada, Trimbakeshwar, and Igatpuri talukas will be acquired, requiring an estimated ₹1,500 crore.
According to officials, the NHAI has already invited tenders for the Vadhavan–Varor–Tawa section, with work expected to begin soon. The project is targeted for completion within 2.5 years after commencement.
With the clearance of alignment and land acquisition, both NHAI and MSRDC are set to fast-track work, ensuring quicker and easier connectivity between the Samruddhi Expressway and Vadhavan Port in the coming years.
