Eco-Friendly Ganesh Visarjan Gains Popularity in Thane.

Ganesh Devotees Sing Aarti for Environment Protection as Visarjan in Artificial Ponds Rises by 60%.

Ganesh devotees in Thane are embracing eco-friendly Ganesh visarjan (immersion) by using artificial ponds instead of natural water bodies like lakes and rivers. This shift aims to protect water sources and aquatic life from the harmful effects of Plaster of Paris (POP) idols.

The Thane Municipal Corporation has facilitated this change by providing facilities at visarjan sites. As a result, the number of Ganesh idols immersed in artificial ponds has increased by 60%. In the current year, 48,682 idols were immersed in these eco-friendly setups compared to 28,732 in the previous year.

Devotees are appreciating this environmentally conscious approach. An aarti (prayer song) emphasizing environment protection during visarjan has been sung by devotees. The initiative has been well-received during the ten-day Ganesh festival leading up to Anant Chaturdashi.
