Surrender or Strategy? BJP to Keep Quiet in Council
BJP, which has repeatedly protested against the ruling party Shiv Sena for not allowing “Question Hour” or “Calling Attention” motions in the last general body meeting, has now “sheathed its sword” for the upcoming meeting.
In the previous meeting, the BJP corporators’ questions were ignored. The ruling Shiv Sena approved the agenda without any discussion. In protest, the BJP corporators shouted slogans and even filed complaints with the (then) Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
However, since the BJP has now given ‘silent consent’ to the fact that questions will not be taken up in this meeting either, whispers have started that this might be a message from the ‘leadership.’ This has foiled the plans of the corporators who had already submitted their questions 15 days in advance. Questions regarding the city’s civic facilities and corruption were supposed to be raised.
The corporators stated that “Question Hour” is a right of the people’s representatives, and the current decision does not do justice to those sentiments. They expressed hope that a discussion would at least take place in the next General Body Meeting scheduled for March 18.
