Trans-Tasman Showdown: Australia and New Zealand lock horns

Match number 2 of the 13th edition of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup will be played between Trans-Tasman rivals; Australia and New Zealand on Wednesday at Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore. The defending champion Australia has won the marquee competition seven times, while New Zealand got their hands on the silverware once in 2000 in its own backyard beating Australia by just four runs. It will be a blockbuster contest as ODI World Champions Australia take on T20 World Champions New Zealand.

Players to watch out

Beth Mooney: The Australian middle-order batter is fresh from a successful ODI outing against India. In the three ODIs that she played against the Women in Blue in India, she scored 233 runs, including a half-century and a century. Overall, in 85 ODIs, she has 2786 runs, at an average of almost 50.

Megan Schutt: The right-arm speedster of Australia has 140 wickets in 102 ODIs at an economy of just over four runs per over. She is excellent with the new ball and bowls economical spells across different phases of the innings.

Sophie Devine: The captain of New Zealand is a dashing all-rounder, who can win matches with both bat and ball. Closing in on 4000 ODI runs, she has wealth of experience under her belt. She also has 107 wickets at an economy of four and a half runs per over.

Amelia Kerr: The all-rounder from New Zealand is ranked fifth in the all-rounder’s rankings in women’s ODI cricket. She is a reliable batter in the middle order, with over 2000 runs in 77 ODIs at an average of 42. Besides, she has 99 wickets in her decorated ODI career so far.
