TMC informs CR about completion of Kharegaon flyover by December 25
The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has informed the Central Railway (CR) that the work on the Kharegaon flyover will be completed by December 25. In this regard, the civic body has given a letter to the Additional Divisional Manager of Central Railway. Although the TMC has claimed that the work will be completed on December 25, the work on one of the steps of this flyover is still incomplete. The work on the second stairway is also incomplete and the power supply along with the access road has not yet been provided.
Despite the announcement that the Kharegaon flyover will be opened before Diwali, the flyover has not yet been opened to public. It is known that only five percent of the flyover work is left and due to some technical difficulties, the work was delayed. Once the Kharegaon flyover is ready, the Kharegaon gate will be closed permanently.
Work on the flyover has been going on for the last five years. The work order for this flyover was given on July 2017. Although this is a flyover connecting East and West, the area in the western part belongs to the TMC. The case was handled by the court as the place where the work starts in the eastern part belongs to Mafatlal Company. After that, on the direction of the court, the TMC bought the land and paid the price at the ready reckoner rate. On July 30, 2019, the work finally began. However, due to the monsoon, the work had to be postponed till October, and after a few months of work, the work was again halted due to the emergence of COVID-19. The work started again after a gap of six months, when the lockdown restrictions were relaxed. However, due to shortage of workers, the work could not pick up the required pace.
Total cost of the project | Rs. 27.34 crore |
Project duration | 12 months |
Reasons for Delay | Land Acquisition and Covid-19 |
Completed work status | 95% |
RCC work | 100% |
Bitumen work | 90% |
Painting work | 30% |
Electric and stair work | 40% |
Thane Municipal Corporation was asked about the work of the flyover. TMC has informed that the work will be completed by December 25. The Kharegaon gate will be closed as soon as the work of the flyover is completed.
