Thane Boy Adhiraj Mestri Tops Global Abacus Championship

Six-year-old secures first rank among 14 countries in Malaysia competition.

Six-year-old Adhiraj Mestri from Thane has made India proud by securing the top position in the global ranking at the IMA World Championship held in Selangor, Malaysia, in July. The international contest, organized by the Abacus and Mental Arithmetic Alliance, saw participation from 488 students between the ages of 6 to 14, representing 14 countries.

Adhiraj stood first in the global rankings, defeating participants from countries like Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, China, South Africa, Panama, Lebanon, Cambodia, Iraq, and Russia. Earlier, Adhiraj was honored as the “Super Champion” at the national level in India.

India won a total of 87 medals in the competition, securing the second position overall, while Indonesia claimed the top spot.

Adhiraj is a Class 2 student at New Horizon Scholar School, Thane, and is trained at Mumbai’s well-known Wonder Kids Academy. Trainers Leena Patil, Gauri Daund, and academy head Ashutosh Patil guided him and many other young achievers.

He is the son of Digvijay and Amruta Mestri, both computer engineers working with Maharashtra’s energy department. Adhiraj is also the grandson of renowned writer Dr. Ram Mestri. His remarkable achievement at such a young age has drawn praise from all quarters.
