Semifinalists South Africa take on winless Pakistan

South Africa have already booked their place in the semi-finals of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup — their fourth appearance in the knockouts and third on the trot.

Barring that heartbreaking 10-wicket drubbing against four-time champions England in their campaign opener, the Proteas have been near flawless, racking up four consecutive wins.

They were pushed to the brink by India and Bangladesh but held their nerve to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat on both occasions. The 25-year-old Nadine de Klerk has emerged as a genuine match-winner, playing the perfect finisher’s role and starring in those nerve-jangling triumphs.

With two league matches still to go, the big question is — will South Africa rotate their squad and rest a few key players, or will they stick with the winning formula?

Given that the Proteas have never reached a 50-over World Cup final, skipper Laura Wolvaardt will be keen to keep her core group battle-ready and in rhythm. Game time, not experimentation, could be the priority as they eye that elusive piece of silverware.

While South Africa look to carry their momentum into the knockouts, Pakistan are hunting for their first win of the tournament — and a bit of redemption. The silver lining for them? They defeated South Africa as recently as last month, when Nashra Sandhu ran riot with a six-wicket haul and Sidra Amin anchored the chase with an unbeaten half-century.

Can Pakistan script another upset, or will the Proteas continue their march of dominance?
