Nilesh Mehta’s Pragmatic Guide to the AI Revolution

Global technology firms today cannot rely on innovation alone. As AI reshapes business, governance, consistency, and ethics have become essential to building lasting trust. This is the core philosophy championed by Nilesh Mehta, the Founder and CEO of NGenious Solutions. Born and brought up in Mumbai, Mehta has bridged the tech ecosystems of the United States and India, leading his consulting firm through two recessions and a global pandemic over a 21-year journey.
After earning his engineering degree in electronics from Shah & Anchor Kutchhi Engineering College in 1996, he moved to the United States in 1997 to pursue a Master’s in Computer Information Sciences from the New Jersey Institute of Technology. In New York, he co-founded a SharePoint community that grew to include 900 companies and 1,600 members, running it for a decade. By 2005, that community-driven mindset led to the founding of NGenious Solutions. For the Microsoft team in New York, bringing Mehta’s team into an account meant having a dependable partner who could support the customer with care and consistency.
“They knew the account was being taken care of properly,” Mehta recalls. This trust opened doors to global giants across media and entertainment, healthcare and diagnostics, life sciences and pharmaceuticals, consumer healthcare, and luxury retail. The India entity, NGenious Solutions Pvt Ltd, was officially incorporated in August 2009.
Mehta shared his insights on navigating the AI automation wave and his deeply human-centric leadership style. As companies rush to implement AI, Mehta notes, “AI is something everyone wants to do right now, but the bigger challenge is asking: Am I ready for AI? Once you start using AI, it has access to a massive amount of data. When you open your doors and windows to welcome guests, criminals can also slip in. You need to protect your home ground first.”
A small business cannot deploy the same financial resources as a Fortune 500 company. However, security is a ladder, not an all-or-nothing proposition. This pragmatism is particularly relevant as NGenious Solutions expands its footprint deeper into the Indian market, leaning on its specialised expertise across the Microsoft and ServiceNow ecosystems.
He advocates for a strict “Security-First” approach to prevent accidental data leaks of sensitive proprietary data. This includes locking down internal and external data access before deploying AI, training teams to use generic context instead of sharing actual company names, client information, proprietary data, or sensitive business details in public AI tools, and setting up automated tracking systems to alert or block sensitive data movement outside company boundaries. He recommends that businesses begin with low-risk Proofs of Concept (POCs) in foundational areas like HR and IT help desk automation before integrating AI into deeply proprietary operational business logic. This practical advice forms the foundation of a new book he is authoring, titled ‘Reinventing IT Operations in the World of AI.’
A Leadership Philosophy Built on Equality
What truly sets Mehta apart is his refreshing approach to corporate culture, where he consciously avoids calling people ‘employees.’ “I never call anyone an employee; they are my team members and partners,” he says firmly.
That belief in partnership also extends to mentorship and personal growth, where Mehta views leadership as a responsibility to create opportunities for others. The company has maintained a customer satisfaction rating of 95% to 97%, and its first hire from 15 years ago continues to be part of the organisation.
“My philosophy has always been simple: if I have been fortunate enough to grow, I should help create that opportunity for others as well. Leadership is about giving forward, sharing knowledge, and helping people build confidence in their own growth,” he says.
