Beat Arthritis, Reclaim Mobility
Osteoarthritis is a degenerative disease that continues to damage the joint surface and deform the shape of bones around the knees. Patients with advanced knee arthritis have severe disabilities, caused due to deformed knee joints. The knees are malaligned badly, leading to frequent, severe pain episodes and attacks where walking, even up to 100 meters, is a challenge, as it is not only very painful, but also takes a lot of energy out of the patients. Analgesics are just helping them carry on till they make up their minds for surgery, and often these painkillers have serious side effects such as renal failure, peptic ulceration and much more.
Following a knee replacement at our center, we mobilise the patient the same evening. For initial 10 days the patients need a walker to walk with, in observation of a family member/ house help. After 15 days they can usually walk around short distances independently. A patient can start doing daily tasks in 3 weeks, and can also start outdoor social activities like walking in a garden, and visiting friends. They can start their jobs in a month’s time, especially if it is very light work.
