Thane Police Crack Down on Drunk Drivers, 111 Caught in One Night

In a special operation on Wednesday night, Thane Traffic Police caught 111 drunk drivers during nakabandi (road checkpoints). These drivers will now face legal action in court.

The action came just a day after Gudi Padwa (Amavasya), when several drunk driving cases were reported. One tragic case involved a drunk driver hitting and killing a meat vendor. This led the police to increase checks across the city.

The operation was carried out at 18 locations in Thane with help from the city police, using 35 checkpoints and a team of 550 officers. The crackdown took place between 8 PM and early morning, targeting those driving under the influence.

Action was taken in Thane (22 cases), Wagle Estate (23), Mumbra (8), Kalyan (23), and Ulhasnagar (35).

Police said many recent accidents were due to drunk driving, especially after late-night parties. The crackdown is expected to continue in the coming days to improve road safety and reduce such incidents.
