Subroto Mukherjee Football Tournament Kicks Off in Thane District.

The Subroto Mukherjee football tournament began with great enthusiasm on Monday, July 7, 2025, at the Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad Stadium in Mumbra. The event is being held under the guidance of the Thane District Sports Officer and Thane Municipal Corporation’s Sports Department.

The competition, played in knock-out format, will see participation from 74 school teams across various categories. This includes 32 boys’ teams in the under-17 category, 31 boys’ teams in the under-15 group, and 11 girls’ teams.

This is the first major sports event of the new academic year 2025–26, and is expected to boost sporting spirit among students. The tournament was inaugurated by senior sports officer Pramod Waghmode, who encouraged students and lauded their enthusiasm.

Key dignitaries present at the event included Sports Coordinator Shankar Barake, District Sports Head of Mumbai Division, and representatives of the Maharashtra State Physical Education Association. Many school sports teachers and football coaches were also in attendance.

The event is being overseen by Thane Sports Officer Supriya Barate and TMC Sports Deputy Commissioner Meenal Palande, with support from various schools.
