Mumbai girl’s half century goes in vain; India Women’s U19 (A) lose by 8 wickets

India Women’s U19 (B) won their second straight match in the Women’s U19 T20 Triangular Series as they defeated India Women’s U19 (A) by eight wickets on Friday in Pune.

Chasing 129, India Women’s U19 (B) completed the formalities in 19 overs. Wicket-keeper-batter G Kamalini starred in the run chase as she muscled an unbeaten 63 off 44 balls, including half a dozen fours and one six. In the process, she stitched a match winning partnership of 104 runs with her skipper Niki Prasad (24 not out) for the third wicket to steer her side to a comfortable victory. The bowlers of India Women’s U19 (A) had an off day at office. Joshitha VJ (1/17) and Chandni Sharma (1/25) were the only two wicket-takers picking a solitary scalp apiece.

Early in the day, riding on captain Sanika Chalke’s (54) magnificent half century, India Women’s U19 (A) posted 128/5 in 20 overs. However, the southpaw from Mumbai did not get much support from the other batters, who were outdone by India Women’s U19 (B) bowlers. Though there was no standout performer with the ball for India Women’s U19 (B), the bowling unit bowled well in tandem. Nandhana Sridharan (1/18), Kesari Drithi (1/20), Parunika Sisodia (1/23), and Vaishnavi Sharma (1/21) accounted for one wicket each.

Unlike India Women’s U19 (B), who have been on song in this tournament so far with two consecutive wins, India Women’s U19 (A) find themselves on the other end of the spectrum have suffered two straight losses.
