Team E win a nail-biting thriller against Team A in Senior Women’s T20 Challenger Trophy
In their lung opener, Team E registered a nail biting 4-run win against Team A in the Senior Women’s T20 Challenger Trophy on Tuesday in Ranchi.
Powered by Nandini Kashyap’s stellar knock of 60 from 45, Team E cruised to a challenging score of 161/5 in 20 overs. The wicket-keeper-batter from Uttarakhand opened the batting and took the attack to the opposition from the word go. The right-handed batter packed a punch with 10 fours and a six. Ishwari Savkar (36), S Sajana (29 not out), and Simran Shaikh (21) capitalised on the start and played useful cameos. For Team A, it was the right-arm seamer Arundhati Reddy who starred with the ball, picking up three wickets. However, the India all-rounder bled over 10 runs per over in her four-over spell.
Chasing 162 was not going to be easy for Team A, who were coming into this match, having beaten Team B in their first encounter of the tournament. The opening pair of Priya Punia (24) and Rubia Syed (19) offered a solid start with a 48-run partnership in 5.3 overs. Later, captain Harleen Deol came to the fore and muscled 56 from 39, including six fours and a solitary six. While Deol would have wanted the star India wicket-keeper-batter Richa Ghosh (13) to join forces, the latter was run out in the 10th over with the team still needing 92 runs for victory. Reddy (4), who contributed with the ball, however, could not do much with the bat, as she perished in the following over. Off spinner Sajana was the pick of the bowlers for Team E as she scalped three wickets.
The two teams will be next seen in action on Thursday. Team E will lock horns against Team D and Team A will take on Team C.
Brief Scores: Team E 161/5 in 20 overs (N Kashyap 60; A Reddy 3/41) beat Team A 157/8 in 20 overs (H Deol 56; S Sajana 3/33) by 4 runs
