Sanika Chalke’s 87 powers Mumbai to a 25-run win over Bengal in Senior Women’s One Day Trophy

Mumbai registered their third win in four matches in the ongoing Senior Women’s One Day Trophy as they beat Bengal by 25 runs on January 10. They are sitting on top of the table with 12 points.

Batting first at the Jamia Milia Islamia in New Delhi, Mumbai were bowled out for 200 in 50 overs. Opening batter Sanika Chalke played a patient knock of 87 that came off 142 balls. Chalke relied more on running between the wickets to score her runs than boundaries as she had just five fours to her name. She batted till the 48th over and was the top run getter for her team. The next top run scorer for Mumbai was number 8 batter Manali Dakshini, who piled up 28 off 56.

Defending 200 against a powerful batting line-up of Bengal, Mumbai bowlers put up an excellent show as they bundled out their opposition for 175 in 48.2 overs. Janhvi Kate (2/26), Jagravi Pawar (2/24), captain Humairaa Kaazi (2/30), and Vrushali Bhagat (2/12), claimed two wickets apiece. Pawar drew the first blood for Mumbai as she struck in the 10th over to break the 44-run opening partnership between Dhara Gujjar and Sasthi Modal. Later, the Mumbai bowlers kept coming at the Bengal batters not allowing them to settle. Besides Mondal (63), none of the Bengal batters managed to get going.

Mumbai play Hyderabad in their their fifth match of the tournament on January 14 at Airforce Complex Ground, Palam II, New Delhi.
