Mumbai register a historic 388-win over Arunachal Pradesh in Senior Women’s One Day Trophy

The Mumbai women’s cricket team have welcomed new year in style as they have registered a record 388-run win over Arunachal Pradesh in the Senior Women’s One Day Trophy. They created history as they defeated their opponents by the biggest margin (by runs) in this competition on January 4 at the Airforce Complex Ground, Palam II in New Delhi.

Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Mumbai posted a mammoth 419/5 in 50 overs, riding on half-centuries from Sanika Chalke (59 off 52) and Riya Chaudhari (96 off 83) and centuries from Vrushali Bhagat (102 off 83) and Sayali Satghare (100* off 77). Mumbai batters played their ‘khadoos’ brand of cricket as they are always known for giving no chance whatsoever to Arunachal Pradesh to stop their blitzkrieg.

In the second innings when Mumbai walked out to bowl, they ran through Arunachal Pradesh’s batting line-up in a jiffy, bowling them out for a paltry 31 in 23.4 overs. Leg spinner Prakashika Naik wreaked havoc with the ball snapping 5/5 in 6.4 overs, including two maidens. She was ably supported by speedster and new ball bowler Saima Thakor, who claimed 3/2 in seven overs, including five maidens.

Mumbai play their next match against Chhattisgarh on January 6 at St. Stephen’s Ground in New Delhi.
