IND-W determined to correct their mistakes going into the 3rd ODI against AUS-W
Indian women’s cricket team will have to wait longer to win their first ODI series against Australia. Having conceded an unassailable lead of 0-2 in the ongoing three-match series, India will play the third and final ODI for pride. A win here could help their confidence as they will head for a three-match T20I against the same opposition starting from January 5.
Having come very close to winning the second ODI on Saturday (India lost the match by 3 runs), the hosts will fancy their chances of making a strong comeback, provided they hold on to their catches (India dropped seven catches in that match). The third ODI between India Women and Australia Women will be played on Tuesday at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Players to watch out for
Deepti Sharma: This Indian all-rounder made valuable contributions with bat and ball in the second ODI, albeit in a losing cause. She snapped her second five-wicket haul in ODIs as she accounted for 5/38 in 10 overs. She was the most successful bowler her team. With the bat, coming in at number six, this left-handed batter scored an unbeaten 24 off 36.
Richa Ghosh: The wicket-keeper-batter of India had never batted at number three in ODIs. However, in this series, she was given the opportunity and she made good use of it. In the first ODI, she scored 21 off 20 and in the second ODI muscled 96 off 117, which was her career-best score. In the process, she stitched an 88-run partnership with Jemimah Rodrigues for the third wicket.
Annabel Sutherland: This Australian all-rounder won the player of the match award in the second ODI against India for her noteworthy contributions with bat and ball. Batting at number seven, this right-handed batter scored 23 off 29. Later in the innings, with the ball, she picked 3/47 in nine overs. This right-arm medium pace bowler was the most successful bowler for her team.
Phoebe Litchfield: This 20-year-old Australian batter has been on a roll scoring back-to-back fifties in the two ODIs played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai against India. In the second match, this opener played a patient knock of 63 from 98 balls. Her inning was laced with half a dozen fours. Though she was given a couple of lives by the Indian fielders, who had a bad day on the field, Litchfield made the most of the chances.
Pitch
The venue has seen eight women’s ODIs to date, of which teams batting first and second have won equal number of matches. It will host the third and the last match of the India-Australia series. More than 500 runs were scored in the previous match played here. However, it was less than what was scored in the first ODI. Batting will not be that easy as the red soil pitches at Wankhede offer uneven bounce. Besides, spinners could have a key role to play once again given the fact that in the previous ODI, 11 of the 16 wickets were claimed by them,
Weather
The weather is expected to be mostly sunny. The maximum temperature attained during the day will be 33 degrees Celsius. There will be 2% cloud cover and no chance of rain. The wind will blow from the north-northwest.
Milestone Alert
- Harmanpreet Kaur needs 93 runs to complete 3500 ODI runs
- Deepti Sharma needs 43 runs to complete 2000 ODI runs and 1 wicket to complete 100 ODI wickets
