ICC Men’s CWC 2023: Can defending champions England open their account with a win over Bangladesh?
The seventh match of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 will be played between England and Bangladesh on October 10 at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala.
Head-to-Head
England and Bangladesh have played 24 ODIs against each other since 2000, of which England have won 19 and Bangladesh have won five. While the overall records are in England’s favour, when it comes to World Cups, it is pretty even steven. Of the four encounters between England and Bangladesh, both teams have won twice each. It will be for the first time that these two teams will play against each other in India in ODIs.
Performance in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 so far…
England and Bangladesh have played one match each at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. While England have started off on a wrong foot by losing to last edition’s finalists New Zealand by nine wickets, failing to defend 282 in Ahmedabad, Bangladesh have commenced their campaign on a positive note, winning their opening encounter against Afghanistan by six wickets, chasing 157, at Dharamsala.

Playing conditions
Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala will host the encounter between England and Bangladesh that will start at 10.30am. Both teams have played one game here in the past and they have ended up on the winning side. The venue will host its second game of this World Cup. In the previous match, the team batting second won by six wickets after chasing 157. An exciting contest between bat and ball could be on the cards.
Weather
The weather is expected to be partly sunny and cool with a forecast of rain in the afternoon. The maximum temperature attained during the day will be 19 degrees Celsius. The cloud cover will be 29% and probability of precipitation will be 65% with 19% chance of thunderstorms. The wind will blow from the east-southeast.
Players to watch out for
In the England side, all eyes will be on Joe Root, who top scored in his last match against New Zealand on October 5. The right-handed top-order batter scored 77 off 86, including four fours and a six. Besides his batting, he can be more than handy with the ball with his gentle off spinners. Though England’s bowling looked listless against New Zealand in the last encounter, they have enough sting in their attack. There is Mark Wood with express pace, Chris Woakes with accuracy, Sam Curran with slower ones and cutters, and the spin trio of Adil Rashid, Moeen Ali, and Liam Livingstone. They may have had an off day in their last outing, but would be itching to go hard against Bangladesh in their next match.
For Bangladesh, all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz was impressive in his last match against Afghanistan. The right arm off spinner picked 3/25 in nine overs, including three maidens. Later with the bat, the 25-year-old right-handed top-order batter scored 57 off 73 balls, including five fours. Besides Miraz, Najmul Hossain Shanto, the vice-captain of Bangladesh is in good form with the bat after having scored an unbeaten 59 off 83 balls, including three fours and a six against Afghanistan in his last outing.
