Rotary Club of Thane Garden City: Pillars of Sustainable Community Development

Education — Empowering Futures Through Learning
Partnering with Dombivli West’s Vivekananda Seva Mandal (VSM), a trust supporting underprivileged youth since 1989, the club provided a ₹85,000 grant to fully sponsor the third-year BTech tuition of Rutuja Kothawade. This funding allows a deserving student at the prestigious Walchand College of Engineering, Sangli, to complete her degree without financial interruption. Partnering with Vidyadan Sahayak Mandal, Thane, the club awarded two nursing scholarships of ₹80,000 each to support training for essential healthcare careers. The club launched a free SSC Board preparation app for 500 students, providing quality study materials and practice tests to level the playing field for those without access to expensive coaching.
Health — Healing Communities, Transforming Lives
Through Rotary’s Global Grant program, the Rotary Club of Thane Garden City invested USD 11,051 across three critical health infrastructure initiatives. The funding supported life-saving pediatric heart surgeries for children with congenital conditions, helped establish an Ophthalmic Center for affordable eye care at TMC Hospital, and donated four dialysis machines to Nipun Hospital’s Rotary Dialysis Centre. By leveraging international resources, the club delivered impactful, affordable local treatment for cardiac, vision, and renal patients.

RYLA — Nurturing Tomorrow’s Leaders
The Rotary Club of Thane Garden City hosted a Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) program at Dnyanasadhana College, drawing 150 local students. As one of Rotary’s flagship youth initiatives, this intensive leadership development experience focused on building self-confidence, community awareness, and the core values of integrity, service, and fellowship. Through sessions on leadership, communication, and social responsibility, the 150 student participants engaged with community leaders and tackled collaborative challenges. By instilling Rotary’s core value of “Service Above Self” at a formative stage, this RYLA camp serves as a lasting investment in developing Thane’s future leaders.

Blood Donation — The Gift of Life
Blood donation remains one of the most urgent and under-supplied healthcare needs in India. Hospitals, trauma centres, and patients undergoing surgeries or battling conditions such as thalassaemia, cancer, and severe anaemia depend critically on voluntary blood donors. Yet, blood banks frequently face shortages, particularly of rare blood groups, and public awareness about voluntary donation remains limited in many communities.
The club’s proactive blood donation camps successfully collected over 100 units of blood, potentially saving more than 300 lives in the Thane region. Beyond the immediate medical impact, the initiative helped normalise voluntary donation as a civic duty, dispelling common myths and fostering a sustainable culture of regular donation to support the local healthcare ecosystem.
