Thane Ready for its First Double-Decker Trial
An air-conditioned double decker bus is set to run on the streets of Thane by next week. A technical team will conduct an informal inspection of the bus, followed by a trial run. According to the Transport Department, 10 double-decker buses will begin operation within the next 15-20 days.
In 2024, the Thane Municipal Transport had initiated a proposal for 10 double-decker buses, but there had been little movement from the administration to bring them into the transport fleet.
Currently, one bus is ready to join the fleet. Its inspection is scheduled for Monday, and the bus will initially run on road strictly for trial purposes. First three buses will be deployed on these routes:
- Route 1- Teen Hath Naka to Gaimukh
- Route 2- Shilphata Datta Mandir to Dombivli Entry Point
- Route 3- Parsik Nagar via Kalwa to Shivaji Nagar
Students and senior citizens will have discounted fares. Additionally, am earlier proposal suggested a “weekend tourism” concept where passengers could travel on all three routes using a single ticket on Saturdays and Sundays to experience the double-decker ride.
