TMC Vows Action on Strays Within 24 Hours

The Thane Municipal Corporation has made a major decision regarding the increasing menace of stray dogs. They have prepared a plan to take action within 24 hours of receiving a complaint. The issue became critical after the tragic death of a 5-year-old girl in the Diva area due to a recent dog attack.

Approximately 15,000 citizens reported dog bites in the past year. The dog population has reached 80,000, of which nearly 75,000 are strays. The Veterinary Department claims this number represents 2% of the city’s human population.

The TMC has launched a round-the-clock helpline. A sterilisation and rabies vaccination campaign will begin next week in the Wagle Estate area. A new center for stray dogs will be established under the Majiwada Flyover, which will be used for the care and sterilisation of captured dogs.

Residents of Thane are waiting to see how effective these steps will be in reducing the growing stray dog menace.
