MMRDA Gets 34,000 Hectares From Thane and Palghar
For the 2026-27 financial year, the State Government has transferred land essential for infrastructure development to the MMRDA (Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority). This is the “Growth Hub” concept. In collaboration with NITI Aayog, the MMRDA is working to transform the MMR into a world-class economic center.
In the Thane District, the total transfer includes 17,789 hectares across 417 villages, and in the Palghar District, 7,973 hectares across 54 villages. This land will be used for Infrastructure Development, Transit-Oriented Development, Economic Centers and Logistics Parks, housing projects, and planned urban development.
The primary goal of this transfer is to make MMRDA financially self-reliant. The authority can generate necessary funds for large-scale projects, reducing its dependence on loans. Projects worth approximately 3 lakh crore are currently underway, focusing on integrated transport systems, metro networks, tunnels, and “Mumbai 3.0.”
These initiatives are expected to create new revenue streams and provide a significant boost to regional development.
