Fishermen Fear Port Project Will Ruin Their Livelihood

Palghar’s Satpati coast, known for its rich fish catch like silver pomfret, is facing a threat. A proposed multi-cargo port at Murbe has raised alarm among fishermen from Satpati, Dandi, Navapur, Nandgaon, and nearby villages. They fear the massive project will disturb the sea, destroy marine life, and directly affect their income. Environmentalists too have flagged concerns, accusing authorities of ignoring the project’s environmental impact and pushing it forward in haste. Fishermen believe their centuries-old fishing trade, the backbone of these villages, could collapse if the port is built. They say no one is listening to their worries, and they feel sidelined in decision-making. To make their voices heard, the fishing community has announced a protest march on October 6. Their demand is simple: protect their seas and stop the project. For them, it’s not just about fishing—it’s about survival.
