Asian teams Bangladesh and Pakistan come face-to-face

Match number 3 of the 13th edition of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup will be played between Asian teams; Bangladesh and Pakistan on Thursday at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. It will be the first-ever Women’s Cricket World Cup match at Colombo as the seventh ranked Bangladesh take on the eighth placed Pakistan.

 

Head-to-Head

Bangladesh and Pakistan have played 16 ODIs against each other, of which Bangladesh has won seven and Pakistan has won eight. At the World Cups, they have met just once in 2022 and in that match Bangladesh handed a heartbreaking 9-run defeat to Pakistan.

Players to watch out

Fargana Hoque: The right-handed top order batter of Bangladesh is the most experienced player in the team. In 76 ODIs, she has scored 1881 runs, including 15 half centuries and two centuries. She will be expected to provide a solid start to the team with the bat as an opener.

Nahida Akter: The left-arm spinner is the most successful bowler of Bangladesh in women’s ODIs. In 54 ODIs, she has picked 69 wickets, at an economy of under four runs per over.

Fatima Sana: The captain of Pakistan is a genuine all-rounder, who has the ability to contribute with bat and ball. She will be playing her 50th ODI as she takes on Bangladesh. The right-arm seamer has scalped 63 wickets and also has three half-centuries under her belt.

Sidra Amin: The right-handed top-order batter of Pakistan is fresh from a prolific ODI series against South Africa. In three ODIs, she muscled two centuries and one half-century. With all her experience over the last 15 years, she will hold the key to Pakistan’s batting.
